This is a blessing. It's a nice program that's going to help our kids out, but just when the first year is over doesn't mean we are going to let it drop. - Brenda Sanders, parent
College for Everyone is a program that was started by former Senator John Edwards. The program is in North Carolina and we feel it should be offered nationwide. It’s quite simple.
1) Take a rigorous college prepatory curriculum in high school.
2) Show your teachers, fellow peers and community respect.
3) Stay out of serious trouble in high school, college and in the community.
4) Apply for federal financial aid and prior to March 15th of each year.
5) Work or volunteer in your college community for 10 hours a week during your first year of college.
And in exchange, we will guarantee that you can go to college at least your first year with free tuition, books and fees. Because high school students are shocked by high tuition costs and scared of student loan debt, we guarantee students up-front (while they're still in high school), privately-raised financial assistance to cover 100% of North Carolina tuition, fees and book costs to any of the states 16 public institutions of higher education or 58 community colleges. The Foundation is currently in the second year in eastern North Carolina’s Greene County’s one high school, Greene Central High School (GCHS). GCHS enrolls approximately 850 students, about half of the students are minorities with a median household income that is below the state averages.
